Install Lattice Diamon on Ubuntu

This is a small post about installing Diamond 3.7 64bit on Ubuntu 15.10.

Software installation

First download the rpm file and install alien.

Extract the rpm with the following command as root:

sudo alien -g --scripts diamond_3_7-base_x64-96-1-x86_64-linux.rpm

Enter the newly created working directory and start the creation of the deb package:

cd diamond_3_7-base_x64-3.7
sudo debian/rules binary

Install it:

cd ..
sudo dpkg -i diamond-3-7-base-x64_3.7-97_amd64.deb

You need an eth0 device.

If you don’t have it (like me) you can create a virtual device and set a fixed MAC address:

sudo ip tuntap add dev eth0 mode tap
sudo ip link set dev eth0 address 02:23:45:67:89:ab

Get the MAC address:

ifconfig -a
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 02:23:45:67:89:ab

echo 02:23:45:67:89:ab | sed 's/://g;'

Ask for a Lattice Diamond free license and insert the MAC address number (0223456789ab). You will get an email with the license.dat file. Copy the license in the Diamond’s license folder.
